Its time to start shopping for band-aids and Dramamine...we're soon headed for Africa once again! Our tickets are officially booked and we're officially hooked.
We've decided to stay in South Africa this year and plan to go further south of Joberg. We'll keep you posted on our whereabouts but we've learned by now that plans are not much more than wishful thinking where Africa is concerned. Africa has taught us to keep an open mind and exercise a new definition of what "today" and "tomorrow" means. (Did you know there is more than one definition?) However, as Americans it is good for us to extend ourselves into other cultures and stretch our thinking beyond the bubble of the United States. Contrary to popular belief, the rest of the world is in fact NOT like the United States and I personally think we have a lot to learn from other people across the pond. I'd also prefer a heart attack to having a close encounter with an elephant as opposed to a stress-induced one because I sat at a red light 15 seconds too long. But that's just me.
I've begun initial preparations today where my hunting is concerned. We plan to see a lot of springbok this year so I've taken a liking to practicing my Nikon shooting on rabbits. There was a block party here a few months back and we seem to have a yard full of them. Tonight I practiced my stealth technique as I approach my target. It was all going well until my foot got stuck in my camera strap as I crouched along. Feet flying in the air while doing a backwards somersault in an attempt to keep my Nikon from injury seems to cause rabbits a touch of anxiety. Camo would do me no good at this point.
Our group is anxiously awaiting what adventures lie before us. Its Africa- so even if its bad, its still good. (Though I perhaps might feel differently if I spent any amount of time in police confinement or consume a bad batch of gemsbuck jerky.) Every day is an adventure in Africa and we are so blessed to be able to experience it. Whatever happens...whatever we see...whatever we experience...God will be right there along with us.
I'm off in search of more targets.....after all, its wabbit season and I'm hunting wabbits so be vewy, vewy quiet (and secure all straps before entering the field)!
